School Visits

The llamas love welcoming school children! Please email walkies@llamas.wales if you’d like to arrange a visit from your school to meet these hairy gentle souls.

A typical visit usually consists of a talk to the children by Lead Llama Farmer Matt about where llamas come from, their traditional and modern uses, different fibre (fleece) types,  the work we do here to rehome llamas from all over the UK, and the differences between llamas and alpacas, and their misunderstood reputation for spitting. We are happy to focus on particular topics that the children might currently be studying i.e. South America, Incas, alternative farming, llama fibre for clothing, composting, grazing animals etc. Children have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the talk.

During the visit, the children will be able to meet the llamas, and we will have a few haltered llamas that the children can stroke, brush, get photos, and braid!

At the end of the session, pupils have the opportunity to take the llamas for a little walk, which is always the part everybody loves the best!

We’re not sure who had more fun - the pupils or the teachers!
